What is malnutrition?
Malnutrition or under nourishment is described as having insufficient food or other substances for good health and condition. As we get older, our eating habits can change and can put us more at risk of becoming malnourished. You may note your sense of taste and smell has changed, altering your food preferences, or you might simply find you have a smaller appetite. Whatever the reason behind a change in appetite, it is vital to ensure that your dietary requirements are still being met.
Malnutrition is a growing problem in our community, with as many as 1 in 10 people over the age of 65 being at risk of, or are already malnourished.
If you have concerns that yourself or a loved one may be malnourished the first step is to book an appointment with a GP.
